Profession “Engraving”

Learning the Profession
Engraving is learned through a quest chain.
After completing the training, a separate tab with all profession abilities and the profession interface will become available in your spellbook.
Abilities and Progression
New abilities are purchased from the trainer after reaching Exalted reputation with Algalon the Observer.
Reputation is increased by completing quests and other activities related to Engraving.
Rune Recipes
Rune recipes, also known as sketches, are obtained from PvE content — dungeons and raids, PvP activities — battlegrounds, the open world, as well as events and server progression stages.
Learned recipes are permanently added to the profession.
Types of Runes
Minor Runes
Minor Runes can be obtained in the open world across Azeroth: from special chests, rare creatures, and other activities.
Minor Rune sketches can be learned starting from Engraving skill 10.
A character can have up to 4 Minor Runes active at the same time.
Their effects work in all types of content, except arenas. Some specific runes do not function on battlegrounds.
Greater Runes
Greater Runes are obtained from current raid dungeons.
Greater Rune sketches become available for learning at Engraving skill 75 and higher.
A character can have up to 4 Greater Runes active at the same time. However, during the Ulduar content stage, only 2 Greater Runes are available for each class specialization.
Greater Rune effects do not work in arenas or battlegrounds.
Rune Collection and Usage
Each rune only needs to be created once. After use, it is permanently added to the character’s personal collection:
- runes are not consumed;
- they are available for all specializations;
- they do not need to be crafted again when changing specialization.
In the “Secrets of Ulduar” interface, rune slots are available: 4 Minor and 4 Greater slots. At the current stage, 2 Greater slots are available.
Runes can be freely inserted, removed, and replaced without a cast.
Restrictions: runes cannot be changed in combat or in arenas. The logic is similar to the talent system.
System Flexibility and Philosophy
Engraving is designed to diversify gameplay by strengthening your character in solo play, group content, and raid content.
The system allows you to quickly adapt your build for specific tasks — AoE, single-target damage, or utility — and opens up new possibilities for every class specialization without unnecessary routine.
